Supporting Women’s Health

3 March 2025

The physiotherapy team at Flint House continue to develop their support for specific women’s health conditions.

They know what a huge impact conditions related to pelvic floor, pregnancy, endometriosis and menopause can have on woman’s body, quality of life and ability to work comfortably.  With female police officers now making up over 35% of the total officers across the country, there are more and more individuals who might be impacted by these conditions through their careers and into retirement.  Providing care, rehabilitation support and advice through our programmes is, therefore, a natural part of developing the Flint House services.

Speaking with Emma Cadwallader, Physiotherapist with a specialist interest in Pelvic Health, she explained all the key information you might need to know about our women’s health programme.

What sort of conditions can we support?

The programme is here to support a wide range of conditions related to the female urinary and reproductive systems.  This can include:

  • Urinary incontinence issues
    • pelvic floor assessments
    • bladder training
  • Post-operative support
    • hysterectomy
    • bladder and bowel repair
    • prolapse repairs
    • cancer treatments – including ovarian, cervical and breast cancers
  • Pregnancy and postpartum support
  • Endometriosis support
  • Breast surgery
  • Menopause support
    • menopause talk delivered by our nursing team
    • local GP specialist

While the programme is run through the rehabilitation team, as with all the approaches at Flint House, the whole person is considered.  Therefore, support for the mental health and wellbeing is also available.

The team here at Flint House want to ensure that women are aware of the support available and our commitment to keep expanding knowledge, skills and capacity in this important field.

What impact does this programme have?

Overall, the programme is a simple and person-led approach that can make a huge difference.

  • It puts a spotlight on this fundamental part of rehabilitation support.
  • It aims to raise awareness and help support officers to have their needs addressed when they return to work.

For some, it can be the first time they have spoken about the impact their condition is having on them and visiting Flint House gives them space and support to address their needs in a safe environment.

The team at Flint House would encourage anyone who is unsure about whether we can help to make contact with the team via physio@policerehab.co.uk and they will be able to speak to you before making an application.
