There is no doubt that 2020 was a challenging year for everyone. It is no surprise then, that this year the Pride of Reading Awards are focusing on those who really did go above and beyond the call of duty during the pandemic. One of those wonderful humans happens to be Claire Maslen, our hardworking housekeeper! Claire has been nominated for the Chris Tarrant Award, sponsored by The Oracle and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her.

From the nominator:  “Claire is an inspiration to everyone, and widely liked by everyone who meets her. When she’s not at work (at the Police Rehabilitation Centre in Goring) she runs a small business, cleaning – mainly for older people. She goes far beyond her duties (with no financial compensation) by organising stuff for them, going shopping for them, and generally sorting their lives out.

She also raises money through stuff like pop-up art cafes to pay for an ice cream van to go to the Duchess of Kent Hospice in Liebenrood Road. She’s always smiling and has a great sense of humour. But it’s her willingness to help others that makes her stand out – and a world of Claire Maslens would be a happier place! She thoroughly deserves this award for just be willing to help anyone.”

Thank you Claire! You’re our hero.

Nominations will run until September and the awards will be held on Friday, 3rd December at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, Madejski Stadium.
