The third Monday in January has a bad reputation and can often be referred to as ‘Blue Monday’ – marking a down point for many people after the festive period and before the Spring sunshine arrives. But the Samaritans don’t see it that way and launched the idea for ‘Brew Monday’ six years ago to encourage people to come together, have a cuppa and connect. Organisations across the world have taken up this more positive and community focussed approach ever since and Flint House is no different.
The Head of Operations suggested marking the day as a result of feedback in the patient surveys, saying that “We wanted to encourage our staff and patients to have a cuppa and a chat at the start of the week to combat the negativity of Blue Monday and replace it with the positivity of Brew Monday. The day is really about connecting with people and promoting mental health and wellbeing, a subject very close to our hearts”
The day was well received by staff and patients alike and gave a chance to reflect on the importance of the mental health programme delivered here at Flint House. The group programme gives individuals an opportunity to explore different tools that they can use to address their mental health concerns in a safe and supportive environment. The team who run the programme use the full range of the beautiful Flint House environment to encourage mindful and therapeutic activities from the Lodge classrooms to the polytunnel and out into the South Oxfordshire countryside for their weekly hikes.
